g’day!

i’ve been meaning to write this for a little while, but i started a new tech job 3 weeks ago, and juggling that alongside my little side hustles has been a LOT.

nevertheless, i’m going to share my best side hustles with you, and give you my scoop on them. most months i make an extra $4-6k doing random side quests, and some of you were curious.

let’s get into it.

  1. freelance work

if you have a salary, you’ve got a skill that’s worth something. i do freelance marketing work, but when i was in healthcare, i also did freelance osteopathy (i travelled australia and set up clinics in remote towns, pretty fun!).

cons - you’re still trading your time for income, navigating pricing early on can be hard, and for some reason the lowest paying clients are always the most annoying.

  2. pet + house sitting

first up: only do this if you love animals. i did this for 2 years and lived rent free while i travelled, and it was how i saved up for my first home! you can do it as a paid gig ($50-100 a night), or just in exchange for accomodation.

when i looked at my budget, housing was my biggest cost. eliminating this for a while was amazing for my savings

cons - living in other peoples homes may be weird for some, but i never had a bad experience.

  3. support work

i did social support work a lot while i was in uni. i used a website called ‘mable’, and i would do things like hang out with elderly people, literally just for company and to take them to outings. it was so wholesome and you can get up to $100 an hour

cons - obviously you’re dealing with people, so don’t do this if it’s not for you

  4. social media/building a personal brand

okay this isn’t for everyone, but hear me out. i’ve been building a tiny personal brand, and just today off the back of this i made $1k from one brand video. my personal brand was also a huge reason for landing my new job in fintech, and just today i received a phone call from someone in my network because they want to hire me (wasn’t my cup of tea but still cool).

cons - you have to climb cringe mountain (i’m still here)

  5. build something!

building tech is easier than ever - can you build something people will pay for, that can make you money while you sleep? my favourite tools for this are lovable + bubble. this takes a bit more work, but with the right idea you’ll have more of a moat + something that can make you money while you sleep. i think this is my favourite, but i’m yet to crack it fully

so there you have it, my top 5 side hustles that are all pretty beginner friendly! happy hustling, friends ❤️

p.s. - speaking of money and getting paid, did you see these new changes to super?

until next time i get a minute,

    larissa x
