In a world increasingly filled with AI generated slop, disappearing entry level roles, and a lot of uncertainty, which skills will hold (or increase) their value?

This is something I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this year, and yes, to some extent, it’s something I don’t have a lot of control over, but here’s where I’ve landed with it.

The skillset I keep coming back to is one that sits at the intersection of storytelling, content creation, and public speaking. To succeed at one of these skills, you’ll usually need the other two, and mastery of all 3 will take a lot of critical thinking, creativity, and self-reflection (yes, ‘slow’ skills that genuinely require time spent just sitting and having a little think).

I’m not alone in this thinking though. Some of the best companies are starting to recognise this too. Take Vanta for example - they’re currently hiring a Head of Storytelling, and they’re offering up to $274k USD to the lucky llama that gets this role.

Duolingo recently posted a Social Media Director role with an eye watering $342k salary. Manychat is currently hiring a Director of Content & Social, and they’re offering up to $235k USD.

If you can make others feel something, understand something, or care about something - I think you’re in the right place.

I also wanted to take a moment to wish you all a lovely festive period, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing. Whether you’ve kicked some big goals, found balance, or managed to hold your head high through some shitty times - I’m proud of you, and I hope you can take the time to be proud of yourself too 🙂
